[Forum Background]:

2015 is destined to be an extraordinary year. Major adjustments to China's energy structure, reforms to natural gas prices, the introduction of the new Environmental Protection Law, and a series of major changes within the 13th Five-Year Plan are quietly taking place. At the same time, new subsidies for shale gas, as an unconventional clean energy source, will also face new opportunities and challenges. Currently, the momentum of domestic shale gas development has not diminished despite the decline in oil and gas prices. On the contrary, it is flourishing across the country. The proposal to establish a national shale gas comprehensive development pilot zone in Sichuan and Chongqing provinces has received support from the Ministry of Land and Resources and the National Development and Reform Commission. Chongqing has taken the lead in commencing construction. Sichuan Province is also carrying out preliminary preparations. With the recent completion of the shale gas export pipeline between Sichuan and Chongqing, the prospects for commercial shale gas development in these two provinces are expected to become even brighter.

The Fifth China Shale Gas Development Forum will address key questions, including the progress of China's third round of shale gas bidding; the development status of blocks in the first two rounds; the economic viability and prospects of shale gas development in the southwest region; the current level of maturity of supporting technology and equipment in China; how to reduce costs and increase efficiency in shale gas development with existing technology and equipment; and the shift in shale gas development models following the introduction of the new Environmental Protection Law. The forum will invite leaders from the Ministry of Land and Resources, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the National Energy Administration to comprehensively explain China's latest shale gas policies, new regulations, subsidies, and support measures. Furthermore, the forum will invite leading industry experts, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and representatives from renowned domestic and international technology and engineering companies and frontline personnel in key domestic shale gas regions to share their development experiences in shale gas regions such as Fuling, Changning, Weiyuan, and Zhaotong. In addition, representatives from engineering companies, technical service firms, and equipment manufacturers serving the domestic shale gas industry, as well as North American shale gas development companies, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and Shell, among other major international companies, have been invited to attend. They will share their latest shale gas technologies, development, and management expertise. The forum, themed "Southwest Shale Gas Development Enters a Great Era," will create more opportunities for cooperation and development, and promote the development of China's shale gas industry.
